Calcium Oxide (CaO), known as quicklime or burnt lime, is produced by calcining high-purity limestone at 900-1000°C. Food-grade CaO is an extremely strong alkali that reacts exothermically with water.
Used in food processing for sugar refining, corn nixtamalization, as a desiccant in food packaging, and as a calcium source. In feed it serves as a calcium supplement and pH regulator.
