Cynarin (1,3-dicaffeoylquinic acid) is a hydroxycinnamic acid derivative found primarily in the leaves of Cynara scolymus (globe artichoke). It is extracted using aqueous-ethanol methods and purified to high concentrations.
Cynarin is the principal bioactive compound responsible for artichoke's choleretic (bile-stimulating) and hepatoprotective effects. It promotes bile secretion, supports liver cell regeneration, and aids cholesterol metabolism by inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase. Commercially, cynarin is used in liver support supplements, digestive health products, and lipid management nutraceuticals.
