Magnesium Oxide (MgO) is produced by calcining magnesite or precipitated magnesium carbonate. Food-grade MgO (light or heavy grade) contains approximately 60% elemental magnesium and serves as an anti-caking agent, acidity regulator, desiccant and magnesium fortification source.
It has high neutralising capacity and is used in pharmaceutical antacids. Industrial grades serve as refractory linings, electrical insulation and environmental remediation.
