Microcrystalline Cellulose (E460, MCC) is produced by hydrolysing wood-pulp cellulose with dilute mineral acid to remove amorphous regions, leaving crystalline micro-particles.
Food-grade MCC is available in various particle sizes and grades (powder and colloidal) and functions as a calorie-free bulking agent, fat replacer, emulsion stabiliser, and tablet-compression excipient.
