Wolfberry extract is produced from the dried fruit of Lycium barbarum (goji berry, gou qi zi) through aqueous extraction and spray-drying. The extract is rich in Lycium barbarum polysaccharides (LBP), zeaxanthin dipalmitate, betaine, and carotenoids. LBP are the most studied bioactives.
It demonstrates immunomodulatory, antioxidant, neuroprotective, and anti-aging properties. Goji berry is also one of the richest dietary sources of zeaxanthin for macular health. In traditional Chinese medicine, wolfberry nourishes liver and kidney yin and brightens the eyes. Commercially, wolfberry extract is used in eye health supplements, immune support products, anti-aging formulations, and superfood functional beverages.
