Magnesium Dihydrogen Phosphate (also called monomagnesium phosphate) is produced by reacting magnesium hydroxide or magnesium carbonate with phosphoric acid in controlled stoichiometric ratios. It is approved as food additive E343(i) in the EU and is GRAS under FDA regulations. In food applications it functions as a nutrient fortifier for magnesium (a mineral important for muscle, nerve, and enzymatic function) and phosphorus.
It is also used as a leavening acid, acidity regulator, and anticaking agent in powder blends. Common applications include nutritional supplement tablets, sports nutrition beverages, fortified dairy products, and specialized medical nutrition. Food-grade Magnesium Dihydrogen Phosphate meets Food Chemicals Codex (FCC) and JECFA specifications with magnesium content approximately 15–17% and phosphorus approximately 26–28%.
