Ethyl Lactate (CH₃CH(OH)COOC₂H₅) is a naturally occurring ester found in wine, beer and fermented foods.
Commercially produced by esterification of lactic acid with ethanol, it is a non-toxic, biodegradable solvent with a mild fruity aroma. Used as a GRAS flavouring agent in food, a green solvent in pharmaceutical and electronics manufacturing, and an eco-friendly replacement for petroleum-based solvents.
