Polygonum multiflorum extract is obtained from the tuberous root of Fallopia multiflora (syn. Polygonum multiflorum), known as He Shou Wu in traditional Chinese medicine. The root is processed (prepared/cooked) to reduce anthraquinone content and enhance tonic properties, then extracted using water or ethanol methods.
Key bioactives include stilbene glucosides (2,3,5,4'-tetrahydroxystilbene-2-O-beta-D-glucoside), anthraquinones, phospholipids, and tannins. The extract is traditionally used for hair darkening, anti-aging, and kidney-liver tonic effects. Commercially, it is applied in hair health supplements, anti-aging formulations, and vitality-enhancing nutraceutical products.
