Radix Platycodonis extract is produced from the dried root of Platycodon grandiflorus, known as Jie Geng in traditional Chinese medicine. The root is processed and extracted using water or ethanol-water methods to concentrate triterpenoid saponins, including platycodin D, deapioplatycodin D, and platycoside E.
In TCM, Jie Geng is classified as a lung-opening herb that promotes expectoration, soothes sore throat, and facilitates the upward distribution of other medicines.
