Sorbitol (E420) is manufactured by catalytic hydrogenation of D-glucose under high pressure. It is supplied as crystalline powder or 70% liquid syrup.
It exhibits high water-binding, non-cariogenic properties, and low glycaemic response. It is the foundational polyol for sugar-free chewing gum, low-calorie foods, and moisture-retention formulations.
